One Year of Foamlab: Growing with Purpose

A bold start

One year ago, Foamlab was officially founded with a bold idea: that nature could offer smarter, more sustainable materials to reshape the way we live. Since then, it’s been a year of experimentation, exploration, and growth - both for our bacterial cellulose-based foam and for our small but passionate team in Biotech Campus Delft, the largest open innovation campus in Europe.

Over the past 12 months, we’ve moved into our lab within Planet B.io ecosystem, tested dozens of material variants, built our first partnerships, and laid the groundwork for bringing our first advanced nano-materials to market. It has been a hands-on process: learning (sometimes the hard way!) how to scale a lab-grown material, putting our testing equipment in place, defining meaningful performance tests, and discovering where our foam could make a real difference.

What's next

As we celebrate our first year, we are also looking ahead:

  • we are planning systematic testing according to industry standards;

  • we are refining our development pipeline to match industry needs;

  • we are exploring new applications with potential impact;

  • and, we are rethinking our brand to better reflect what we stand for.

While refining our materials with specific applications in mind, we are actively looking to collaborate with brands and manufacturers exploring sustainable alternatives in their industries. Whether you are in #insulation, #highendpackaging, or something unexpected: if you are curious about the potential of our nanocellulose foams, we would love to connect.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far: mentors, friends, collaborators, and curious minds. We are just getting started, and we cannot wait to share what comes next.

Here’s to year two!
