Foamlab at Hello Tomorrow Türkiye: Deep Tech Meets Design

In May, our Scientific Advisor and Co-Founder, Elvin Karana, took the stage at the Hello Tomorrow Türkiye Deep Tech Summit in Istanbul to share her vision for the future of biomaterials and how science, design, and entrepreneurship can come together to drive real-world change.

In her presentation, Elvin introduced the latest research from her team at TU Delft | Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, alongside insights from her ongoing journey co-founding Foamlab: our biotech startup working to bring bacterial cellulose-based foams to market.

Hosted by Hello Tomorrow Türkiye, the summit brought together a wide range of voices shaping the future of deep tech across sectors: from regenerative medicine and food systems to sustainable textiles and circular technologies. Among the speakers were pioneers like:

  • Dr. med. Dilek Gürsoy, Europe’s first female surgeon to implant an artificial heart;

  • Arzu Kaprol, fashion designer merging innovation and technology;

  • Prof. Alexander Mathys, expert in sustainable food and biotechnology;

  • Prof. Cengizhan Ozturk, known for fostering academia–industry collaboration in life sciences;

  • Fatih Konukoglu, Chairman of CircularTech innovator RE&UP.

The event was not only an opportunity to present Foamlab’s work to a broader audience, but also to connect with peers and potential collaborators who share our belief that science and creativity can work together to address today’s biggest material challenges.

Curious about Foamlab’s work at the intersection of biotech and design?

We’re always open to new conversations and collaborations.
